in the 1930's as a
hydro-electric generating
facility (See History),
Lake Murray has become a major
recreation destination in
central South Carolina.
Lake Murray is bordered by
the towns of Lexington, Chapin,
Prosperity, Leesville,
Ballentine, and Irmo, and only a
short drive from Columbia,
Newberry and Aiken. The shores
and waters of Lake Murray
are enjoyed by thousands of

area of 78 square miles with 649
